Yesterday morning Jacqui Alexander, 19, below, launched her Summer collection at the Melbourne Town Hall.

It was fitting that the talented designer, also the face of the Spring Fashion Festival, kicked the show off with violinists playing in such lush, regal surrounds. The collection was a mixture of gorgeous minis and shifts, bubble skirts and corseted bodice’s. It isn’t hard to see why British retail chain Harvey Nichols has snapped up many of Alexander’s designs- they are simply lovely.

When asked what the inspiration for her collection was, Alexander replied with “my grandfather”. Naum Belog, grandfather and artistic mentor for Alexander, was an artist who used bold colours and abstract prints. And bold colours and abstract prints are definitely visible in Alexander’s work.
This gal is going to be huge. A million wishes for the very best Jacqui.
